Vintage Melissa square reverse carved lucite loose powder compact. Original pochette, puff and sifter. Unused and boxed

This unusual square compact is unused and in mint condition. The lid is enamelled jet black with a central reverse carved lucite plaque of deep red roses. The powder well lid flips up readily to show the clean well with the original leatherette sifter and puff. The engine turned interior is gorgeous. The reverse is plain equally pristine. This compact measures 6.5 cm in square. It is presented in its pochette, with sifter and puff and Melissa box.

Melissa was a British brand made by Searchlight Products (Melissa) Ltd. It is thought to have been based in Acton, London W3 from the early 1950s, By 1962 the company had premises retail in Arundel Road, Uxbridge, Middlesex.
