Who doesn't love a perky wise owl bookend?
Punning aside, these show really great late mid-century style, with charming details like flower petal eyes and carefully molded feather and feet details. When the light hits them they shine like ice and dance with reflections, and they can be used either as bookends or as tabletop decor on their own.
Details:
The manufacturer of these is unknown and they are not marked, although they are reminiscent of the German firm Walther Glas (glass). Odds are they were paper/foil labeled when made and it has worn off. The quality is high: they are well made and balanced properly, and they are heavy enough to retail hold up large books (they weight over 3 pounds each). Blenko, Viking and Pilgrim all made owl bookends, and while it may sound like blasphemy to some, we think these are more attractive than any of those versions. Condition is very good, with little signs of age and no cracks or chips that we could find. 5” across by 2.1” deep by 6.75” high, circa 1960s-1970s.
Note: The shipping estimate — based on a ship weight of 8 pounds — is for the east coast and destinations closer to Los Angeles may have cheaper rates. Differences will be automatically refunded.
