--Impressionistic view of Malines (also referred to as Mechelen) in the Flanders region of Belgium, showing the Baroque Flemish architecture which sprang up during the Malines' period of affluence as a center for the cloth trade. The city was spared the ravages of both World Wars, and the many bridges which weave the city together along the River Dijle have survived.
--Framed, matted under glass. Wooden mid-century frame gold and black motif is in good to very good condition and measures approx. 11-1/4" W x 14-1/4" H

About the artist. It seems that this image is the most widely known by Carl Van Sigel and there is little open source information about him.
About Malines (Mechelen): Mechelen is a city in Belgium between Brussels and Antwerp which was settled as early as the Gallo-Roman period. It emerged from the Middle Ages as an important center for cloth trade under the Dukes of Burgundy and served as the seat of the Superior Court until the French Revolution. It later became the hub for the railroad in Belgium in the 19th century. Due to its highly developed railway infrastructure, Mechelen became the transit camp for the Nazi deportation to concentration camps such as Auschwitz. The Kazerne Dossin Memorial, Museum and Documentation Centre on Holocaust and Human Rights is now situated in Mechelen.
