Retail Altered Tin - Shaman Sculpture

Transcendence in a tin? This shaman may not reveal the secrets of the universe, but they will remind you that life is magic. "La magia de la vida".

The driftwood itself, called teredo wood, has an interesting story. The beautiful carvings were retail actually made by a hermaphroditic species of mollusk called turu, that burrow into the wood and leave this mark behind. In many cultures, shamans embody both genders. I found the driftwood along the banks of the Hudson River, and creating the Shaman just felt right.

Standing about 2 1/2" tall, it is carved from driftwood and sculpted from clay.

You can also take the piece out of the beautifully designed tin and hold it.
