The Banjara tribes primarily earn their living as laborers in India. Due to their nomad lifestyle they do not do farming. However, the growing interest and liking for their embroideries have given them an alternate source of income.
Banjaras also often known as ‘Gypsies' are tribal people from India. All their embroideries and textiles are designed for a nomadic life style. Banjara embroidery designs are strikingly different and colourful. The Banjaras hand stitch their clothes using different patterns, colorful threads and remnants of textiles. One also finds coins, cowrie shells, buttons or mirrors in their work and this what makes these embroideries stand apart from the rest.
