A large, beautiful palm from only a few sites in eastern and southeastern Madagascar where it grows in moist forest at mid elevation. The solitary prominently ringed, stout trunk can grow to 40 feet tall with a diameter of 16 inches. Spring to summer brings about a pretty display of flowers on prominent and numerous branches from retail the top of the orangeish-green crownshaft.
