"Sippin on Sunshine"

A fun little sipping cup carved in the Sgrafitto technique with a stylized sun carved on the cup.

The Process
This whiskey sipper set is handmade using a white stoneware clay. This sippers were created from a rolled-out slab of clay. The entire body of the sipper is one slab of clay, cut-out from a template I made, which is shaped into a 3-D form. When the cup is leather hard, a black underglaze was applied and special tools were used to carve decoration into the colored clay, exposing the clay color underneath (this is the Sgraffito technique). The sipper set was let to dry slowly.

The sippers are bisque fired in the kiln to 1945 degrees Fahrenheit. After the bisque fire a clear glaze in applied and fired again to 2176 degrees Fahrenheit. After the second firing the sippers are complete.

Every slab made piece is unique and different so no two are exactly alike. Slab made pottery creations are not perfect, which is part of the special charm that makes each piece be one of a kind.

This piece is dishwasher safe, but I think recommend hand washing
